When in doubt order what you are currently using!
- 2.3GB magneto optical disk is the most common capacity; and come in both 3.5” and 5.25” physical sizes. It is important to determine which size you need prior to ordering product.
- Both “disk” and “disc” are common spellings when referring to optical media.
- Capacity refers to the amount of data a particular disc is capable of holding.
- MO disks come in two distinct physical sizes: 3.5 inch and 5.25 inch.
- 5.25 inch magneto optical disks come in either WORM (write once read many) or RW(rewritable)
- MO disks are manufactured to ISO specifications – A Sony 2.3GB Disk will function exactly the same as a Philips 2.3GB Disk.
- Pay attention to bytes per sector this ultimately will determine compatibility between hardware/software and equipment.
- The capacity of disk used is determined by the drive.
- A 230mb 3.5" drive cannot use a larger a MO Disk larger than 230MB; only disks that are 230mb or smaller (128mb) will work with your drive. The same is true with the 5.25 inch MO Drives and disk compatibility.
- MO disks are commonly used in the Medical, Telecommunications & Aviation field to store critical data.

Q:
What is an MO?
A: |
An MO drive is a computer storage device which utilizes both an optical laser and magnetic field to record data on a special removable cartridge.
Q:
How many times can rewritable disc be written?
A: |
Our Engineering test shows up to 10M cycles for MO. The optical head does not touch the surface of the disk so there is no deterioration on the media.
Q:
Can MO drive read CD or DVD media?
A: |
No, these are all the laser technology devices but the write method and physical configuration of the disks are completely different.
Q:
What are the advantages of MO recording technology?
A: | Since it’s a removable device, data storage is expandable by simply adding cartridges. Media has a storage life time of 50 years because no potential head crashes and physical wear and tear on the media’s surface. |
Q:
Do I need software driver to install?
A: | Most Operating System supports the T7-9100 drive as a removable device and it will run natively without the aid of 3rd party driver. |
